Lackford Lakes (Suffolk Wildlife Trust) is 100 hectares of wetland, woodland, scrub and sandy heath created from former gravel pits. A nature reserve with year round importance for wildlife, it is designated a Site of Special Scientific Interest for its birds and dragonflies.

The Visitor Centre offers stunning views across the reserve. It is the ideal palce to start your visit and plan your route around the reserve and its network of hides. Excellent facilities are provided for those less able.

Birds – any time of year is a good time to see birds at Lackford. Residents include kingfisher, water rail and pochard and are joined by seasonal visitors.

Mammals- Lackford Lakes is home to many different mammals including otters, stoats and weasels.

Plants - A variety of wetland plants grow around the lake margins including yellow flag iris and purple loosestrife.

Dragonflies – over 15 species of dragonfly and damselfly have been recorded here.
