The Brecks spans 370 sq. miles / 940 sq. kilometres across Norfolk and Suffolk in the heart of the East of England – one of the driest parts of Britain.

Help us to keep the Brecks special for future generations to enjoy

Explore our distinctive landscape of calm forest and heathland. Marvel at our outstanding wildlife and stumble across peaceful villages. Discover our ancient history stretching back to the Stone Age.

Walk, Cycle or Horse ride on the ancient trackways or take time out for a family picnic in the safe, wide open spaces.

“Access for All” trails are available at many locations across the Brecks, ensuring that visitors with restricted mobility have a choice of places to visit.

If you care about the environment

The Brecks is sure to meet your expectations as one of the leading sustainable visitor destinations in the UK, whatever the season. Many of our accommodation providers and attractions are committed to a greener environment and have been recognised by receiving the prestigious Green Tourism Business Scheme Awards.

The Brecks is easily reached by road, rail, sea (Harwich) and air (Norwich or Stansted) and is close to Cambridge, Norwich and Bury St Edmunds. The coasts of Norfolk and Suffolk are also a short distance away.

We hope that this website will help you plan a visit to the area and provide you with information on the conservation of this unique area. You will find everything you need to know on accommodation, places to visit, local produce, activities as well as the landscape, wildlife and heritage.

Just click on the relevant section for more information.

Please conserve, protect and support the Brecks:

  • Respect the countryside

  • Leave the car behind and explore by foot, cycle or horse

  • Use public transport where possible

  • Buy local produce
